Black Mirror looks like it will be returning to  +Netflix  soon with the new teaser trailer that just came out. If you have yet to experience this horror anthology series you should check out the other seasons already on the streaming service. The show's take a nice Rod Serling-esque look at sci-fi/horror type stories that always have a nice twist involving a lot of today's trending technologies. Check out the trailer here:

Channel Zero is the Syfy channel's version of American Horror Story . It is a horror anthology series and you know we like those here . Each season is set to be six episodes and a new story, this one is based on what can only be described as a ghost kids show called "Candle Cove" and some unsolved murders that happened around the time of its airing in 1988. Mike Painter is a child psychologist that returns to his home town of Iron Hill because he wants to investigate the murder of his brother, who was one of the victims of the unsolved murders from 80's. At least that's what we're led to believe, there's a lot Painter doesn't share but will need to soon as the show moves on. The kids show, "Candle Cove" that this season is titled for doesn't seem like something kids would want to watch. It is no secret that horror anthologies are a favorite here at  +The Blogboard Jungle  . One that has been out of print for a long time will soon be out on Blu-ray in time for the holidays. Nightmares (1983) starring a very young Emelio Estevez and Lance Henrikson is one of the first anthologies we got our little eyes on. The Estevez story in particular was memorable because it has a video game, releasing character from the game and attacking him in the arcade. If you ever played a game for hours in an arcade, you'll know how cool that sounds to old timers like us. Shocktillyoudrop news had details on what would be in the Blu-ray like commentary and the trailer. If you're an older, old school fan of horror, you probably saw it. Henrikson does battle with the Devil in his story-line who drives a pick-up that would be considered bad-ass by anyone that likes pick-ups.    This film is on this web site's list of top movies for Halloween and lucky enough for those that haven't seen it, it's free on Fearnet this week.  This movie snuck up as a recommendation when I first watched it and had not seen any anthology horror films in a while.  The thing that is cool about this type of story telling is how all the small stories are a part of a bigger story, and this one focuses on Halloween.  It stars some pretty decent and well know actors like Anna Paquin and Brian Cox to name a few. Watching this film again you notice things in conversation and costume that predict the twists on one of the stories, I won't ruin it for anyone since the film seems to not be very well known even though its been out for a while.      Finally got around to seeing the sequel to V/H/S after reading so much about it on line and in the +Google+   horror community, and I have to say I liked this one better.  The story set up was more believable in my opinion than the original one but still uses people watching the videos to set up this series of short films, and as stated before it's hard for me to not like anthology horror films. The format...is still not dead. Not that the set up of the first one was any less believable, people record themselves all the time doing stupid things and putting them on YouTube.  Tosh.0 makes his career off of stuff like that, but the investigative scenario and requiring it to be recorded just made it easier to swallow.  This story follows two private investigators, Larry and Ayesha, as they investigate the disappearance of a young male college student. Upon entering the student's home, they discover a large stack of TV sets and VHS tapes...

     Having been on the hunt for horror anthology films one that was recommended was The ABC's of Death , a film that takes one letter from all the letters in the alphabet and makes a horror short representing the letter. Twenty six film makers, twenty six short stories relating to some kind of death.  While many of the stories were culturally diverse, that may be the reason this one is a thumbs down for me. Most Magnet films are ok...this isn't one of them.     There are very few stories that stand out since they are all very short, some are animated most are live action and not more than ten minutes long.  How they got the ideas for the letters each director was assigned is something you'll have to look up on line, the only stand outs for me really were the letters A and C but you can judge for yourself if you're looking for something to watch.  The ones from Japan were almost all perverted and those film makers seemed to use this project...

The format is not completely dead.          I recently wrote about anthology horror films , and how we don't see enough of them, and someone suggested I check out V/H/S .  I had been hearing a lot about it but no one mentioned that it uses the anthology story telling style format through found footage.  I have to say I don't like found footage stuff, never did, the Blair Witch Project and unstable camera work just bother me and I think it takes away from the story.  However, I tolerated it for  V/H/S and was not disappointed with the way the stories were put together.     You have to take the presentation with a grain of salt, anyone dumb enough to record themselves committing crimes to put on the web for profit would be shut down and arrested eventually.  But, this is straight to video horror so you have to over look it.  None of the characters are likable either but take com...

This one and its sequel are some of may favorites     Sometimes a movie can take too long or get to the point, in horror it can make or break the film if the story isn't good enough to build it up, which is why I was always partial to anthologies.  The first book I ever read was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories so I may have been sculpted to like shorter stories or stories grouped together since I was a kid.     In media, the awesome Rod Serling's Twilight Zone marathons got me into seeing that style of story telling on television and film.   I watched them in blocks so again, it kept me interested by starting fresh every half hour.  In the 80's, they made Twilight Zone: The Movie with Dan Aykroyd that was pretty good and had some of its own behind the scenes creepiness and drama included.  Another popular 80's film had an "A" list of horror writers in it called Creep Show and its sequel Creep Sho...
