Better Late Than Never: The Purge (2013) Review

The trailers for this film had me thinking it was going to be a city wide chaotic story of the night when the "haves"(versus the have nots) try to survive the annual purge of crime and rage that supposedly takes place every year in 2022 according to the films brief summary.  That is what I was expecting, that is not what I got when I sat through The Purge (2013) . I don't like it when a movie is made, with the idea that the audience and the characters in it are all stupid.  Who thinks up stuff like that?  (The answer is in the opening credits under the list of producers)  First, the characters in the film are the most unaware, disconnected people in any horror or thriller I have seen in a while.  Ethan Hawke is a good actor, so it bothers me when he puts himself in a film like this although he does have a nice little action sequence during the films climax.  But, his character is so unaware of his family and their situation in the fil...

Better Late Than Never: The Curse of Chucky (2013) Review

I have loved this "My Buddy" product killer since the original Child's Play film, Brad Dourif and horror go together like peas and carrots in my opinion.  Any horror franchise from the 80's will always grab my attention and I will always make time to watch them.   The Curse of Chucky was a straight to video, fun new addition to the series and I liked it. There may be some spoilers here, Dourif makes his return both as Charles Lee Ray and the voice of Chucky in this one his daughter Fiona Dourif stars with him as the main protagonist.  She plays Nica, a girl paralyzed from the wasted down that lives in a big house with her mother and her mother meets an untimely death when she gets a certain "Good Guy" doll delivered to her.  You'll be wondering why throughout most of the film but you will get your answer at the closing of it.  If you love the franchise and have followed all the films you will most likely have a small gripe with one of the plot ...

Now You See Me (2013): Review

Ocean's Eleven ( the Clooney one) , meets The Prestige in a failed attempt to make tweens look at magic the same way the latter film did in the most unbelievably expensive heist film made with actors that are stuck between the A and B list.  With the exception of Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, and Woody Harrelson this movie seemed like a rushed mess of a wannabe heist, X-men type of film. It's OK of you don't them... "The Eye" is supposed to be a secret society magicians club and only the cooled David Blaine level magicians get in!  You have to be invited to get in and you have to be hazed like in a frat to get in based on the films premise.  Only the hazing to the lucky magicians known as "The Four Horseman" is to put on an elaborate Vegas style magic show and become YouTube sensations by putting on ridiculously unbelievable magic acts that are so obviously done with special effects it's just corny.  There is a twist in the film, most of...
