Complications (2015) TV Review

USA always comes to save your TV summer. A few of their shows have ended, but they have a lot of new ones coming our way.   Complications aired the 2 hour pilot making the three episode litmus test easy to use and decide if the show is worth watching. So far it is. There seems to be a Jason Bourne/Manchurian Candidate feel to the main character, Dr. John Ellison. He seems to have another side of him that he is not even aware of, and it looks like he has skills that he can exercise if needed.  Like, being able to his a moving target, center mass, on the fly. They have not elaborated anymore on that or if he is missing any parts of time in his own mind. Jason O'Mara plays Ellison and his acting is probably the best in the show. The female characters that have debuted so far, seem problematic and annoying. His wife, seems to have someone on the side and an overall emotional mess. A nurse he works with, is just a walking problem for him all around. His situation...

MMA Dead in NY

It was originally written about here before when the bill to legalize MMA did not get passed last year . This sport has a hard time in the state of New York and for a time it was believed it could have been the fault of a certain promoter with a bad attitude. Well, that was wrong because he put forth a good effort only to get shut down for the eighth year in a row. Just not happenin' New York... The rant from the Carbazel MMA Podcast is below:

Hannibal Cancelled

Photos from Official web site Television executives in their continued disconnect with the fans they lead away from their own shows has cancelled Hannibal .  The prequel series based on the works of Thomas Harris and the character of Hannibal Lecter that spawned several films will end this summer. Hannibal joins Constantine in the horror themed shows that get dropped, even though the fan-base is there and usually ratings are to blame for the cancellation. Here's a thought, if you change the night a show airs without really warning the fans, the ratings will drop. When Constantine was in trouble, it was watched over closely and held steady through its first season.  When it looked like it was safe, the network changed the night it aired.  Hannibal used to air on Friday nights, when it began to air its 3rd season, it just switched to Thursdays. Viewers that did discover this found out when their DVR's started recording some random show Thursday night. The only ot...

John Wick (2014): Review

Photo: Official movie site Sometimes you need to see a movie about kicking butt. Man On Fire is that kind of movie , Leon: The Professional is that kind of movie, and so is John Wick . What do these films have in common?   For starters, they all star actors you don't expect in roles like this. Keanu Reeves has already had his share of action, martial arts themed, films so his performance is not that much of a surprise. +The Blogboard Jungle   loves a well written story but if the action in a film is as awesome as it is in John Wick . Liberties can be taken in the writing process and it won't matter. Are the days of martial arts stars over? Was Jet Li the last one of our time? John Wick shows that with a good stunt team, good director, and awesome fight choreography anyone can make a solid action film. By now you have probably heard a lot about John Wick .  Believe the hype and check it out. It's rated 'R' for violence and a lot of...

Father Evil is summoning you

Photo: Father Evil.com There is a convention for everything these days. So much so, they're known as "Cons" to those that frequent them. Most people know about the big Comic-con in New York and San Diego, but did you know there are ones for Horror fans? Photo: Official Father Evil Facebook page Costume players are pretty common at most conventions and they do develop a following while they are there.  However, one in particular was originated at horror conventions and seems to appear at many across the nation. Father Evil has drawn many worshipers to his flock over the years, so much so people have to wonder, "Is this cosplay or is this for real?" Photo: Official Father Evil Facebook page. Demon, monster, hell-spawned, no one really knows but something about his aura draws fans to Father Evil like no one before. He is listed among Haunt-Faire.com's  list of monsters up for voting on who is their top monster. Please go and vote ...

The Punisher is coming to Netflix

Photo: Marvel.com Season two of the  +Netflix  Marvel series Daredevil will bring in the vigilante according to Marvel . There was some speculation about bringing the character to the streaming service and even more about who might be playing the role. Tom Hardy may have wanted it but the role goes to Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead on AMC. If the show is successful, maybe he'll get his own spin-off. Either way, fans of the show and comics will have to wait until 2016 for the final product. Filming is said to begin this summer. What do you think of the casting choice? Dawg Fight (2015): Review

Photo: rakontur.com This film is a difficult one to watch, especially if you're on the fence about MMA and the various roads to the big leagues. On one hand, the people that refer to unregulated combat sports as "human cock-fighting" will use this film to support their argument.  On the other, it does give a good look at an outlet human beings have always had to keep them from doing worse to each other. Dawg Fight looks at a culture of combat sports that can save lives, if the combatants choose to make the right choices. +The Blogboard Jungle  loves MMA .  This film  was a little hard to watch only because it could easily be made to put the sport in a negative light.  Mostly because, the sport in this film is unregulated and the bulk of the combatants are untrained. The focus of the film is on the promoter, Dhafir "DADA 5000" Harris. He and Kevin Ferguson, best known as "Kimbo Slice, are some of the people that found success through the events put to...

Between, Netflix weekly series review

Photo: Netflix.com Between is a Netflix attempt at a weekly series. Why they would stray away from the binge worthy success of House of Cards and Daredevil can only be answered when Between is over. The premise is an odd combo of Under the Dome and Lord of the Flies with a little bit of Contagion . Curiosity might grab you through the first couple of episodes but with only two currently available, you have to treat this like regular TV. +The Blogboard Jungle  gives any a show a three episode run.  If it does not grab interest in the first three episodes, it is no longer on viewing rotation. It is a fair way to assess if a show is worth your time or not. Two episodes in has our curiosity but not out interest, yet. The curious part is the premise, a mysterious disease wipes out a town's adults over the age of 22. Those under 22 are left to make their way as a civilized group until the town's quarantine is lifted by the government. A fence surrounds the town a...
