The Iceman (2012): Review

    I had a chance to watch Michael Shannon in the biopic film about Richard Kuklinski, The Iceman  this week and it was not a bad film.  It is based on the life of the convicted killer and his various interview he gave detailing his history and criminal activities for various books and documentaries.

I remember seeing the America Undercover documentary on HBO in the 90's and had known of him since then.  He did several other interviews for follow up documentaries and psychologists because of his disconnect with the crimes he committed.  In one of the interviews a law enforcement officer says that Kuklinski was not a serial killer since he had no "modus operandi" or M.O. and he actually did what he did for work not for any other psychotic reason. The film stars Michael Shannon from Man of Steel and Board Walk Empire as Kulkinski and if you've seen his other work you can tell he won't have a problem playing an emotionally disconnected hit man.  The entire story takes place in New York and New Jersey from the 60's to the 80's and focuses on Kuklinski's family life and his criminal affairs.  In the interview I saw he mentions and gets emotional about the only regret he has which was betraying his family's trust, Shannon does a good job of re-enacting the interview scenes right down to the chewing of whatever it was he was chewing on.

The Iceman was a limited release in theaters and is rated "R", for scenes of violence and is available on home video now.

The Phantasm Series Shows Players Riding Out Their Passions I just recently watched all the Phantasm movies.  I watched the entire franchise in two days after not seeing any of the films since I was a kid.
