Maggie (2015): Review

Photo: Official site Maggie (2015), is a limited release horror film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a father that has taken to caring for his daughter after being infected by a zombie virus. The film begins just after things get under control after the outbreak happens, and scientists are attempting to find a cure. In a time when the market is flooded with the zombie genre because of The Walking Dead television series, this film takes a different approach at a soon to be played out genre. Photo: Official site. Schwarzenegger has really been flexing his acting muscles over his action muscles in the last few films he has done. When he came back to acting with The Last Stand he used the film to welcome himself back to movie going audiences while letting them know, he is aware he may be too old for action. Not that old, because he did Sabotage where he played a commander of an elite group of agents with a troubling secret he had to keep. It was still action, but he had t...

[REC] 4 (2014): Review

Photo: Magnet Releasing The fourth installment of the [REC] series brings back Adriana Vidal, the original protagonist reporter from the first film. This series has always been a favorite, it started with a found footage kick off and slowly went away from it. Vidal, played by Manuela Velasco returns as the focus of the film in [REC]4: Apocalypse . Photo: Magnet Releasing Originator of the first, and second films returns for this one. Juame Balagueró directs with an obviously bigger budget for effects. Make-up on the infected individuals looks better, there is a nice sequence with infected monkeys, and some really nice exterior shots of the ship everything takes place on. Even having left the third film in the hands of another film-maker, which is a parallel sequel to the original story, he manages to bring it all together in this film. Photo: Magnet Releasing Fans of the original three films would be doing themselves a favor catching the fourth film. Rarely does a seri...

Killer Legends (2014): Review

Photo: IMDB Every horror film is the spin off some idea, or ghost story the writer may have heard of as a kid. It has been written about here before how truth can be scarier than fiction , this documentary film is based on that ideology. Killer Legends focuses on the true horrors that have inspired many films and urban legends. The film covers basis for The Town That Dreaded Sundown , Candyman, When a Stranger Calls , and the fear of clowns in general. Tracing the origins of the basis of the stories mentioned lead the film makers to horror that may be worse than what Hollywood tells us is scary. Without going into much detail, some of the true stories are left without having apprehended the killers. It's funny how a lot of horror films get released around the summer time, but many true life horrors, like the ones in this film happen around Halloween . This documentary is up on  +Netflix  if you care to check it out. If anything, it can add more films to your favorite...

Tom Hardy as The Punisher?

Some characters from comic books just don't sell well on the big screen. Even if they are awesome, two hours may not be enough to build a fan base that makes Hollywood happy, The Punisher is one of those characters. Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, and Ray Stevenson have all worn the skull t-shirt to give Frank Castle his proper portrayal. Unfortunately, it was never enough to sell on the big screen. From official site . Tom Hardy is the latest actor to say he wanted to play the iconic vigilante. In a recent interview he said that characters name first when asked what he was looking to do next after Mad Max:Fury Road . Hardy can definitely pull it off, he is admittedly smaller than most to play Castle, but Hollywood can take care of that. Don't forget he did play Bane in The Dark Knight Returns . Photo: Lions Gate film Thomas Jane has probably been the most passionate about playing The Punisher. Long after the film he did with JohnTravolta, he did a short film ca...
