Straight Outta Compton (2015) Review

Album Cover This movie will take a lot of people down memory lane if they grew up around the time the album the film is titled for came out. When it did, those that got it when it did come out probably had to sneak the purchase from their parents. The film takes a look at the coming up of the group N.W.A and their break-up when some let the success blind them. Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC-Ren, and DJ Yella made up N.W.A and the actors picked to play them could not have been more perfectly cast. Some of them look so much like the true life figures they portray the resemblance is uncanny, it helps that O'Shea Jackson, Jr. is playing his role of his father, Ice Cube. The film tells a story a lot of fans probably got footnotes from all the news the group made. To have it dramatized in a film made it a true work of art. A lot of news footage is original footage from the time things occurred in the film. If you were ever a fan of hardcore rap and hip-hop,you owe it to yourself...

Rest in Peace Asbury Park Zombie Walk

The Asbury Park Zombie Walk has broken records and become a recent NJ tradition in recent years. With shows like The Walking Dead making the zombie genre more popular, its infection every October grew larger and larger. All good things must come to an end, and New Jersey's greatest zombie event has finally met its demise. It's no secret here that horror and Halloween have a home here on  +The Blogboard Jungle  , so when things like this happen it makes us sad. Jason Meehan, the founder of the walk left the following message on Facebook to explain why it has died: My Dear Zombies,I am aghast as I sit here, trying to find the most gentle way to write these words to you... but there... Posted by New Jersey Zombie Walk on  Thursday, August 20, 2015 It's not like it was the only one in existence, but it was one of the biggest ones in New Jersey. October is a pretty good time in the Garden State and there are plenty of horror themes conventions and 5K runs...

Fear The Walking Dead review

The Walking Dead has become one of the biggest fandoms since the show aired. It already had a decent following from a series of comic books it is based on. Fandoms are odd, if something changes too drastically or written poorly, they can be rather harsh on the newer medium.  +The Blogboard Jungle  is guilty of this in regards to the show, The Walking Dead . That's why it is not written about often here. However, their is a fix for that, and the people that write for this site. Enter, Fear The Walking Dead , a brand new story with nothing to compare it against, from a period not even mentioned in the books. Also, its an outbreak story. If the zombie genre is done well, the story usually takes place during an outbreak. Some of the best zombie films take place during the outbreak, this looks to be a show dedicated to stories like that. The show is also dedicated to building characters for fans to follow and these characters are brand new to everyone. New characters that ...

Photos from 8/22 Pro Wrestling Syndicate event

Independent Pro Wrestling shows can be win or lose with the presentation and the venue they choose to put them in. If ECW has showed anyone anything, it is that if the talent is willing to put in the work, the show has the potential to be great. One member of the talent, "Bad Apple" Matt Macintosh, was  nice enough to spare a moment to promote the event and discuss the difference between Pro Wrestling and MMA. If you would like to hear that interview you can do so at The Carbazel MMA Podcast , and view photos from the event at this link . His match with Rey Mysterio was not only the match of the night, but the outcome was surprising and well deserved. Pro Wrestling Syndicate may be an independent promotion, but if anyone could repeat the success of ECW, this promotion seems to have the ingredients to do it.

Mr. Robot gets the curtain pulled back

Stream on Amazon Prime Finally, the big reveal on Mr. Robot that we kind of all knew was coming.  What was good about it, even though we already knew what was coming , was when Elliot said to the viewing audience,"You already knew, didn't you?" Yes, Elliot. We did know. The whole F-Society vs. Evil Corp story kind of took a back seat to Elliot's revelation, but it does not seem to be going anywhere, and neither is Mr. Robot. Figment of Elliot's imagination or not, Mr. Robot let Elliot know he will never be rid of him. Our corporate American Psycho friend wants in on Elliot and F-society's plans since he has fallen out of grace with his wife and Evil Corp. Two nuts in a little pod look to be working together. One cool thing they did in the show was play a piano version of the Pixies, Where is my mind , which was played in Fight Club when the episode came to a close. You can say they're copying Fight Club , but is that really a bad thing?

The Strain recap/review "Identity"

Michael Gibson/FX A new hunter is making his way to help The Elders, and the others that are looking to stop The Master. Eph went to Washington DC to hook up with yet another woman in a completely random act of being "Ephed up", and we finally got to see Gus and Angel in action. Who does Eph think he is? That horn dog senator from House of Cards ? All Eph's trip to DC turned up was what we already knew, Stoneheart group and The Master have some influence in government. Setrakian, Fet, and Palmer's former assistant were making some headway with their quest for the book before they were attacked by Strigoi Nora and her little Strigoilings. Palmer's former assistant was lost in that exchange, too bad as we were hoping for more from that character. Gus and Angel showed they could work well together when they needed to, despite their differences. Angel's knee seems to be a big problem though, something that is present in the book but not as prominent. Most...

Mr. Robot catch up

click to stream from Amazon A lot has happened since the last time Mr. Robot was written about here . Since, Elliot has lost someone close to him and the Fight Club plot line seems to be unraveling. Even if a lot of people called that early in the show, where it could be going is still reason to watch. The  American Psycho plot is also unraveling and what makes that interesting is that, this particular psycho has an equally psychotic co-pilot that will help him in his psychotic endeavors. Funny thing revealed in the last episode that our corporate psycho and Mr. Robot seem to be well aware of each other. Their psychotic endeavors to either over-throw the one percent, or become one of them have been spinning around each other all along. It was not completely underlined that Mr. Robot played by Christian Slater is in fact Elliot played by Rami Malek. However, if they are going to clear that up it will most likely be in the episodes to come. The way the story is being to...

Deadwood might be getting the ending it deserves

One of the best westerns on recent television might finally get the closing it deserves. Deadwood got cancelled by HBO in 2006 without an ending and recent news from TV Line has suggested it may be getting the film that gives it an ending. If you have not seen the show, owning the complete series will be accompanied by special features. In that you'll see the shows creator explain why the show ended and his distaste for the networks decision. He was not alone in his distaste. While the report from TV Line was only referring to talks resuming about the show getting the ending it deserved, it was enough to get fans excited. Even though it is all just speculation now, expect this to be HBO's next big thing if it does come back. The show is really one of the best things HBO has ever produced. It is worth owning and if you would like to purchase it just click the featured image to pick it up on Blu-ray. Deadwood Wrap-up Movie Finally (Maybe) Happening | TVline.com

Lucy (2014) Review

Lucy (2104) was one of Luc Besson's recent films that featured  Scarlett Johansson as the title character. She does good work in most films she does, but the story for this one felt a little weak. Besson has mixed action and drama better than most but this film started somewhere different then where it ended. The beginning is done very well, showing the most primal form of man when he was using less than ten percent of his brain. The first ancestor of man found, "Lucy" is referenced a lot and the relationship between Johansson's character and the original human is brought up a lot. The story is based on the "what if" situation on the potential of using 100 percent of our brain capacity, as opposed to the ten percent we currently use. Lucy, accidentally has a drug entered into her system that allows her to slowly be able to use the full potential of her brain. In trying to find out more about what is happening to her and the potential dangers of the drug...

Westworld coming to HBO

The teaser trailer for HBO's Westworld was released and is creating quite the buzz. The original film of the same name was released in 1973 and came from the mind of Michael Crichton. It pre-dated The Terminator and most films that had machines turn against man. Yul Brynner who had already made a name for himself as a gunslinger in The Magnificent Seven films donned his black hat again to play one of the androids in the theme park known as "West World". Ed Harris is listed as one of the cast members for the HBO version and if  +The Blogboard Jungle  has a guess, he's playing the same role Brynner did. Harris has been in the movie business for a while and most likely has been in more than one western, but his best role is in that of Appaloosa . In it he plays a hardened law man hired to clean up a town named from the films title. Anthony Hopkins makes an appearence in the teaser trailer but not a lot is given away. That's what teaser trailers are for ...

The Strain: Quick and Painless recap/review

The action before the credits roll let the audience know this episode was going to be good. Strakian continues to search for the Lumin and Fet is in jail, shortly. The show is taking a turn from the books that, is probably a good idea to make this thing last for a good run on TV. The way Fet and the police teamed up in this episode is a really pleasant surprise. Eph has assumed another identity and is sporting a new haircut. Just so you know the actor playing him is bald so this is good for him. Setrakian makes some headway in locating the book that could contain the secret to finishing off the Stigoi for good. Although the people he is using to find it may not be trustworthy. Fet and the police go on a cleaning mission in Redhook that is reminiscent of the beginning scenes from the original Dawn of the Dead . They make a good dent in the Stigoi population and educate the police on the weaknesses of the Strigoi. Eph has a scene of note when he runs into his old boss and we find o...

Hannibal S3 number 10 recap/review

The most recent episode of Hannibal was pretty much the middle act of the Red Dragon film. It was familiar and fans of the Hannibal Lecter canon will most likely be familiar with most of it. Bringing the show to the small screen is never without its differences to remix something new to a story a lot of people know. While there were some moments between Graham and Bedelia, the Dolarhyde story was pretty much the same up until he goes to see the Blake painting.  In the film's he never runs into Graham there but they did that here. Even though the encounter was brief, it was a welcome change in episode that may have been a little too repetitive of an old story. If the people at NBC saw these and thought it might be too much more of a story that has been told, before they made their decision to end the last season, they should have been more patient.

Hannibal S3 Episode 9 review/recap

Season 3 Hannibal is one of best looking shows on television. The visuals are so good, even if an episode is telling a story we already know, one can't help but watch. After last week began the Red Dragon story-line the show is based on the show seems to be running out of steam. If you have watched the original film and its remake as many times as we have, a lot of the lines were familiar. The show is done so well, it doesn't seem that anyone (except NBC) minds. This episode "And the Woman Clothed With the Sun", is the second act of the Red Dragon story-line. Other than the great visuals during crime reconstruction there did not seem to be too much difference from what happens in the film. Bringing in the Tooth Fairy from Red Dragon is kind of a hint the show is coming to a close. However, they already played the Mason Verger card, which takes place in the Hannibal film so could they be going for something new? Maybe, a new story to let us know where Hannib...

Incognito to be a feature film

Product photo from Amazon Ed Brubaker has written some solid stories for comics and has a love for crime noire. When he writes stories about super powered individuals they tend to keep with his criminal theme. One of his most unique stories is that of Zack Overkill in Incognito . The story is soon to be a feature film according to Tracking Board , a site that releases news on Hollywood insides scoops. The film is to be directed by Fede Alvarez, best known for his welcome Evil Dead remake/reboot. That film was directed well and helped build a story already created by someone else. Alvarez has a good track record so far in making someone else's work, better. Incognito takes you through Zack Overkill's transition to a normal life  in the witness protection program. Having once been a super villain he turns over to authorities and is given a fresh start. He is de-powered through medication but when he finds a way around that he seems to be finding himself to be a do goode...

Hercules (2014) review

Amazon product photo Dwayne Johnson, best known as The Rock has made a lot film since stepping away from the squared circle. Most of his work is good enough to sit through once and this falls in that category. If you were a fan of the older Hercules films with Lou Ferrigno this may be a nice trip down memory lane for you. This film tends to make more of the legend of Hercules than what he actually is, a Hero with a lot of strength. Johnson seemed to bulk up a little more than normal for this film (as it that's possible). One thing that needs to be said about Johnson's film roles is that he gives 100% to his performances. That probably comes from the world of pro wrestling he was raised in. Many of the characters are interesting in his band of warriors that help Hercules and add to his legend. The attempt at giving him an inner struggle story about his past was a little weak, but in films like these it does not hurt it much. The action and special effects will more tha...

The Strain 'The Silver Angel" Recap/review

Photo: Amazon product photo The second book of The Strain trilogy introduces one of the stand out characters from the story, El Angel de Plata (The Silver Angel). A luchador that lost his way from the days when he was a legendary wrestler who appeared in films fighting evil. He makes his appearance in the second book of the trilogy. Growing up young and Latino around the 70's and 80's people may remember a similar character that had stories and adventures in Mexican cinema known as Mi Masquera (The Mask). The Silver Angel seems to come from either Del Toro, or Hogans memories of the old character and it is an awesome addition to the story. Fans of the book were probably looking forward to last nights episode as they finally brought him into the show. So far, since we have been following the story on our home, small screens, the changes are not unwelcome from the book. Although it may bother some people that Gus recognized The Silver Angel so early in the show, it ...
