Tyson Fury sings after win

Combat sports often seems brutal to the casual fan. Rarely do they get to see the lighter side of a sport that has people trying to beat one another in physical competition. So when it happens it makes news and its good to see. Tyson Fury recently defeated  Wladimir Klitschko over the long weekend after Thanksgiving and celebrated by singing in the ring to his wife. He may not have the best singing voice, but its not too bad for the new heavyweight champ of the world.  Apparently he sang to Klitschko before the fight too, have a listen:

Jessica Jones on Netflix review

It seems like not that long ago we were just telling you about the release for Netflix's latest Marvel series, Jessica Jones . Well we binge watched it over the long Thanksgiving weekend and it was worth knocking out in a weekend. They do just enough to keep all the Marvel films involved in their big picture but small enough to keep it in line with what they did with the Daredevil series. Jones is not so girly that she would annoy fans not inclined to enjoy a female protagonist, but not overly tough that it would annoy anyones macho idea of what a hero in the medium should be. There's a lot of heavy drinking and cursing in the series so this is definitely not for the kiddies. Luke Cage is introduced in this series, helping to build on what Marvel is expanding with these Netflix exclusives. The Jessica Jones series is not as good as Daredevil , but makes for a nice filler to bring it all together. If you like the whole Marvel universe on the big and little screen, t...

Cathal Pendred retires from MMA

Cathal Pendred (17-4-1) announced his retirement today on social media. The Irish fighter has usually been on the same card as Conor McGregor and lost his last two fights in the UFC.  At 28-years-old most fighters are in their physical prime, but Pendred cited lack of desire to compete as his reason for calling it a career. “I now find my passion is no longer what it was and I feel that it is time for me to move on. I have other interests that I want to pursue. The time is right to close one door and open another”-Cathal Pendred Pendred received a lot of negativity over his decision win against Sean Spencer back at UFC Fight Night 59 in Boston, when it seemed Spencer won the judges favored Pendred who was considered a local favorite. Even though the consensus is that Spencer was robbed, Pendred had nothing to do with it. Fighters go in and fight that is what Pendred did and loved to do. What happens outside the cage is separate from what goes on inside and hopefully ...

Marvel's Civil War breaks out in May

Marvel: Civil War Fresh off the week of The New Jersey Comic Expo , Marvel released the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War . This is the adaptation from one of the recent, best story-lines from Marvel before they were acquired by Disney. The story has the Marvel universe split and making unlikely alliances. Heroes team-up with villains, those that were known for working with law enforcement become criminals, and it changed a lot in the comics when that story ended. Check out the trailer below, if you have not read it and your comic book reader, click the above image to pick up the book.

DYNAMITE fuse lit at the New Jersey Comic Expo

One of the featured guests at the New Jersey Comic Expo was Garth Ennis , he was on hand to promote his work with DYNAMITE. The New Jersey based publication has put out a lot of the famed writer's work and is still doing so with his latest, " A Train Called Love ". The company is also releasing James Bond comics after the success of the  Spectre   film this month. The latest from Ennis is a pretty funny adult themed, action/comedy. It was reminiscent of the film The Big Hit , with Mark Wahlburg and the language and humor is right up the alley for what Ennis is known for. If you were a fan of Barracuda from his run on "The Punisher:MAX" this is one you want to read. It has a lot of the same funny banter between characters that will seem familiar if you liked that story-line. "A Train Called Love", is new and should be on issue two by now. If you are looking for the latest from Garth Ennis, this is exactly what you have been waiting for. Writ...

Justice wins at the New Jersey Comic Expo

The New Jersey Comic Expo held its first event in New Jersey and with it,it's first ever costume contest .  Competitive cosplayers were in full swing and competition was fierce, but no matter how many characters appeared one group would win the top prize. If ever anyone needed an escape from the mundane day to day in central New Jersey, the NJ Comic Expo was the place to be. Good and evil characters did their best to come out on top in the costume contest, but when the DC Cosplayers East are present, its a hard task to beat like minded folks in such a creative environment. They took top prize as "The Justice Society of America", with probably the best group presentation ever done at an event like this. It wasn't just fun and games either, if you are an aspiring creator or wanted to pick the brains of some of the veterans of the comic book business, panels ran all day on both days. Writers and artists shared some of their best experiences with fans a...

Who should Holly Holm fight next?

After winning the title from the seemingly unbeatable Ronda Rousey, a rematch between her and Holly Holm was a popular subject at the post fight presser. However, Miesha Tate was initially set to face Rousey again before Holm was picked over a third bout with Tate. A smart move since both Rousey and Holm were undefeated before UFC 193. When the subject of a rematch was brought up after Rousey's loss, it was said it makes sense to have Holm and Rousey fight again. Both Dana White and Holm seemed to agree, and Rousey most likely wants it too. What should be next for Holm after #UFC193 ? We know what they said makes sense, but what do you want? — Carbazel MMA (@Carbazel) November 15, 2015 The results are varied and by no means a large enough population to know what all MMA fans want, but Tate is still ranked number one in the UFC and she seems to have been shelved. So do you want to see what makes sense? Or, do you want Tate to get one more shot at whoever hold...

Into The Badlands premiere review

Post apocalyptic martial arts thriller on AMC's growing roster of shows, Into The Badlands made its debut Sunday night. After pumping people up for a week full of fists and fury, there is no way  people were missing this one. The story moves just fast enough to feed us a story, without letting the viewer get too bored with the dialogue. The story is all fine and well, but have you ever watched a martial arts film for the story? This is one of those cases where the action is pretty awesome for TV, and a story is necessary to get to the battles. By no means is any of what you just read meant to take away from the show. It is kind of mix of Hunger Games , Game of Thrones , and Enter The Dragon . Some of that may not be your cup of tea, but if you're a fan of martial arts action there was enough in the first episode to make you want to see more. It's not the kind of action from The Raid , but more of the old school Hong Kong style action with a new school twist. Into T...

Opinion: No excuses UFC 193

The big news in MMA this week, is the loss Ronda Rousey had at UFC 193 in Australia. She came ready and willing, if you saw her open work outs she seemed as ready as ever.  So was Holly Holm, even though most people figured Rousey would walk through her. So what happened? Was it a case of Rousey falling in love with her own hype? Not likely, she has been competing since a very young age and her controlled aggression could seem that way. So why didn't the arm collector try and take Holm's arm? There's a lot of arm chair commentators that feel the coaching might have something to do with it. Nick Diaz, who knows more than the average fight fan seemed to hint at that being an issue as well. Sick of people making such a big deal it was a simple mistake you can't be running in on tall people someone in her camp left that out ! — nick diaz (@nickdiaz209) November 15, 2015 After the first round was over, Rousey's corner, (that she trusts) told her she was doi...

UFC issues statement on Cro Cop

This week one of the best strikers in MMA announced his retirement .With that came another bout on a UFC card that would have to be removed. The day after Filipovic announced his retirement the UFC released a statement on the matter. It said that bout was canceled due to a "potential" violation of the USADA anti-doping policy. Suspending someone for a potential violation seems a bit odd, but does it take away from Filipovic's legacy? Probably not. At 41 years old and numerous injuries he mentioned taking many medications for pain management in his retirement announcement . It was said his opponent, Anthony Hamilton would be fighting at a later date, on another card. Read the full statement here . UFC Statement on Mirko Cro Cop |UFC.com Photo: TJ De Santis/ Sherdog.com

Creator of AMC's Preacher coming to NJ Comic Expo

We're big fans of Garth Ennis and fans of his should be excited to know he'll be at the upcoming NJ Comic Expo this month. AMC showed the short trailer for its upcoming adaptation of the graphic novel Preacher last weekend and it looks good. His work on The Punisher: MAX series is probably one of our favorite reads here at  +The Blogboard Jungle  and this may be his only appearance in The Garden State. Preacher is sure to draw in fans and the network has already had a lot of success with bringing a comic book story to TV with The Walking Dead . It is set to air next year so before it becomes "a thing" you may want to meet the creator when he comes to the NJ Comic Expo on the 21st and 22nd of this month. If you have never read any of his work, you can pick up a copy by clicking the above image, so you can have something for him to sign. The list of guests seems to keep growing too, so if you're a fan of comics you should keep checking their web-site for...

The fans have spoken on the Arrow/Constantine crossover

Or at least the ones that follow us on Twitter did. We were so excited about the crossover we put a poll on Twitter to see if fans that wanted to "Save Constantine" wanted the show on Arrow's network. Here's what you all decided: #ConstantineOnArrow next week. Should they bring the show over to the CW? #SaveConstantine — The Blogboard Jungle (@B_Boardjungle) October 29, 2015 The crossover showed how Arrow and Constantine met on the infamous island Oliver was stranded on and had him help with his current dilemma with Sara. Way to throw a character in the flashback and "now" of an episode Arrow writers! Who knows if this will become a thing, when the above poll was posted on Twitter, someone commented that the network may not want to be a comic book network. Although is it really that bad an idea? The comic book culture has proved to me marketable and bring original stories to Hollywood. Would you want another DC character show on the CW? Ple...

Nightmares (1983) coming to Blu-ray

It is no secret that horror anthologies are a favorite here at  +The Blogboard Jungle  . One that has been out of print for a long time will soon be out on Blu-ray in time for the holidays. Nightmares (1983) starring a very young Emelio Estevez and Lance Henrikson is one of the first anthologies we got our little eyes on. The Estevez story in particular was memorable because it has a video game, releasing character from the game and attacking him in the arcade. If you ever played a game for hours in an arcade, you'll know how cool that sounds to old timers like us. Shocktillyoudrop news had details on what would be in the Blu-ray like commentary and the trailer. If you're an older, old school fan of horror, you probably saw it. Henrikson does battle with the Devil in his story-line who drives a pick-up that would be considered bad-ass by anyone that likes pick-ups. Check out the trailer below, pre-order on Amazon by clicking the above image. 80's Horror ...

Thin line between MMA and Pro Wrasslin

The line is thin between pro-wrestling and MMA. Many competitors in the sport have come from the world of pro wrestling, long before CM Punk started preparing for his UFC debut. Bobby Lashley, Ron Waterman, Brock Lesner and even Albert Del Rio have strapped on the four once gloves to fight as close to real fighting as they can get. Rarely does a move from pro wrestling cross over the way the wrestlers do, but when it does happen it's worth noting. Check out a "Rock Bottom" performed by Luis Alberto Nogueira on Yuki Baba at this past weekends Pancrase event: Pro wrestling, MMA, not matter what you call the move or where it happens, it hurts.  If you need more proof, check out the podcast interview with Pro Wrestler, Matt Macintosh and his response to Dana White's comments about pro-wrestling being fake.

Halloween isn't over at the New Jersey Comic Expo

New Jersey Comic Expo Just because Halloween is over, doesn't mean we have to act like it. One of the hottest costume ideas or a reason to wear costume in general is from comic books, and comic conventions. Well, here's your chance central New Jersey, the East Coast debuts the New Hersey Comic Expo right in Edison's NJ Expo Hall on November 21-22. +The Blogboard Jungle  makes its rounds to plenty of  Horror-cons , and looks forward to one right in our own backyard. The guest list seems tailor made for comic books fans in NJ, especially with The Godfather of the X-men, Chris Claremont coming as a guest. Punisher MAX writer Garth Ennis will be on hand as well. If you need anymore proof of how deep New Jersey's comic roots are, just watch an episode of Comic Book Men. They're located about 20 minutes from where the Expo will take place. This show had a strong turn-out on the West Coast and they are looking to duplicate that here. "Coming off of our stro...
