Contracted (2013) Review

I caught this film on Netflix, it's an IFC release from last November so this isn't too late like the Better Late Than Never reviews that come up, well ... late, on this site.   Contracted is a pretty disgusting film, if you like gore you'll probably like this one as there are a lot of scenes in bathrooms that are gruesome enough to mess with that part of your head that makes you say "Yuck". Some spoilers may follow, so if you plan on seeing it you might want to stop reading now. Poor girl... I have to say I like that this is the first horror movie in my opinion disguised as a PSA for family planning, and being aware of your surroundings if you're a young lady who goes to parties like the one in this film.  The young lady, Samantha played by Najarra Townsend is a sexually confused girl who gets taken advantage of by a guy at the party in the film.  The guy whose face you never really see, seems to have a bit of necrophilia before he takes advan...

Better Late Than Never: Injustice: Gods Among Us (Ultimate Edition) Review

There are a lot of posts here about why waiting out the "New Generation" consoles is a good idea, one of them is getting great games at really good prices .  While they may not be new releases anymore, they are still "new to me", which is fine when your schedule is too busy to keep up with all the new releases. Box art of DLC characters I don't know what it is about my relationship with Sony's Playstation and fighting games.  The last fighting game I played that I really enjoyed was Namco's Tekken 4 (and that began on the PS1) and the many Mortal Kombat games released for the Playstation 2.  Then, I got into the Xbox 360 and all the on line fun that was to be had there with shooters and co-op games, fighting games didn't interest me for a while.  They were coming out but I didn't bother with them, because I got into strategy, and open world games when I wasn't playing on line.  Most recently I have been playing Grand Theft Auto: V a...

Better Late Than Never: All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (2013) Review

I think this film is meant to be a horror film but it seems to fit thriller more. Either way it was film school project at best and another example of Hollywood's disconnect with what Americas youth does with its free time. not a video, just an image. First of all the title character, Mandy Lane was no more or less hotter than the other females that were around her in the film.  I couldn't see why "all the boys" were after her if equally hot options were available to them.  Second, the killer in the film is established pretty early, I would say within the first 20 minutes you will have an idea of who it will be.  There is a plot twist you might find interesting and it is not something I saw coming but the movie was pretty bad over all.  Anson Mount plays a good role in "Garth" the ranch hand left to watch these kids part on this ranch in the middle of nowhere.  Why this was a thing?  I have no idea. If you're home sick or doing laundry...

Better Late Than Never: The Curse of Chucky (2013) Review

I have loved this "My Buddy" product killer since the original Child's Play film, Brad Dourif and horror go together like peas and carrots in my opinion.  Any horror franchise from the 80's will always grab my attention and I will always make time to watch them.   The Curse of Chucky was a straight to video, fun new addition to the series and I liked it. There may be some spoilers here, Dourif makes his return both as Charles Lee Ray and the voice of Chucky in this one his daughter Fiona Dourif stars with him as the main protagonist.  She plays Nica, a girl paralyzed from the wasted down that lives in a big house with her mother and her mother meets an untimely death when she gets a certain "Good Guy" doll delivered to her.  You'll be wondering why throughout most of the film but you will get your answer at the closing of it.  If you love the franchise and have followed all the films you will most likely have a small gripe with one of the plot ...

Uncharted 4 trailer

Nothing has made me want to get a next gen console , now the current generation of consoles until today.  I like saving my money, I like that I have a huge selection of games to check out since I took a break from them to finish college quickly.  I like that the prices of the last generation are starting to get better for my pockets and because of that I was able to enjoy all 3 Uncharted games at my leisure. Nothing made me want a new console until I saw the trailer for Uncharted 4: A Thief's End , which shows the date of 2015 at its end.  The first 3 Uncharted games were probably my most enjoyable solo playing experience to date and knowing that a final chapter or new chapter is coming to one of the new generation consoles has made my decision to purchase one for me.   I'll be getting a PS4 in 2015, hopefully they'll make an Uncharted 4 Edition.

The Strain coming to FX in July

FX is going to make this book a series, I got it as a gift before I went back to college to finish my degree and now that I am done with school I'm jumping back into it.  It's pretty good so far, I'm half way through the book but I'm racing the clock to finish it before the show starts. Book to be TV series this July Anything that takes place in or around New York City I make time to watch, not just because of my familiarity with the city but seeing a story take place in a place that is real to you makes watching a show more enjoyable.  The book is pretty good at describing the grossness of everything that is happening and if you are a fan of Guillermo Del Toro's work you already know he pulls know punches with gore. Moving that detailed gore to the book is done well.  Chuck Hogan co-authors with Del Toro in the book so hopefully they get to collaborate on creative content on the show.   FX has some pretty creative commercials and trailers out to promote the s...
